Greenland cannot be expressed in words. Iceland is much more earthly but our itinerary makes sure you get to experience a more remote Iceland of the West and the North. It is true that we could have done this without Greenland, but then going so close to feeling heaven and not actually feeling it is not what we want to be a part of.

We will arrive by Jet Airways in Amsterdam and after clearing immigration and baggage collection we would need to check in for our next flight to Reykjavik on WOW air. Arrive at the Keflavik airport and proceed on the western coast of Iceland. Our night stay will be in Borgarnes, a charming town located on a peninsula at the shore of Borgarfjord with a population of just 1,700 people. Tonight you will experience a near midnight sun phenomenon as the sun will set but the sky will be lit up throughout the night.
After a leisurely morning enjoying the surroundings by walk, we will start our drive in the scenic coast of West Iceland on Road 54. Our first stop this morning is going to be the town Arnarstapi where you will get a first hand experience of watching the Lava Formations and in them the Arctic Tern colony of birds. We will enjoy a coastal walk here and then proceed to Hellisandur, a fishing port on the fringe of the Snaefellsjokull national park which a bird lovers paradise. The highlight of the day comes up during lunch when we visit the Bay on which Stykkiholmur is located. The view of the innumerable islands from the bay is very scenic and the old houses in the town are charming. After some free time for lunch, we will proceed to our night stay to Laugerbakki as small village, as we move from west iceland to North Iceland.
The first stop on our scenic drive this morning is the amazing Vatnsnes Peninsula. It is home to the largest seal colonies in Iceland. Later observe the great views over to Strandir across the sea with a black lava beach. The troll like Hvitserkur rock formation and the fortress of Borgarvirki are also sights to wonder at. Blonduoss literally means the mouth of the river Blanda. It is an ideal place to enjoy a quiet lunch after which we will pass the very small village of Varmahlid before arriving in Akureyri, your home for the next two nights to access the North of Iceland. Akureyri is the second biggest city in Iceland and the capital of the North of Iceland. Our hotel here has facilities which are in sharing.
Today is the day of waterfalls, lakes and nature baths. The town of Akureyri is a very charming one and on a fjord. We will start out morning leisurely with a drive on the highway 1 which is also called the ring road. Our first stop is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland, Godafoss. Later we will drive on a gravel road to reach the beautiful Lake Myvatn, which is a volcanic lake created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago. The Detifoss waterfall is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe and you will see why. Lunch can be enjoyed at the nature baths of Lake Myvatn Geothermal Area. The water is at a temperature of + 40 – 45 deg centigrade and we have included the entrance at the baths. You will have to carry the costume and towels. After a relaxing dip in the thermal waters we will return back to Akureyri to spend some time at city centre.
This morning gives you an opportunity to take an optional trip to watch the whales where as those who want to relax and take in the surroundings of Akureyri can do so too. We will board our flight to Reykjavik and then check in our hotel. In the evening enjoy a orientation walking tour of the capital of Iceland.
One of the most popular tours in Iceland has a mix of all its varied attractions. We will start with the Geysir Geothermal Area where the Strokkur geyser shoots a column of water upto 100 ft high every 5 – 10 minutes. The visit continues with the Gullfoss (Golden) Waterfall which tumbles into a crevice 105 ft deep. The tour further continues to include the geological wonder the Thingvellir National park where the American and the Eurasian tectonic plates are separated and are pulling apart every year by a few centimetres, which is the core reason of the many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions the country has. Return back to Reykjavik in the evening.
We will board the Air Iceland flight from the Reykjavik airport today to fly to the land of the mid night sun on the west coast of Greenland. Illulisat at a latitude of 69.2 deg North is north of the Arctic circle and the sun today wont set. On arrival we will be taken to our accommodation which neighbors the Ilulissat ice fjord, where there are floating icebergs from the most productive Glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. We will enjoy a mid night sun boat tour amongst the floating ice bergs for a magical experience of this land of Greenland.
Today we will visit a typical Greenland Village and see the culture of this magical country up front. We will be hiking to the settlement of Oqaatsut and then enjoy a guided tour of the settlement. The settlement has a prime position on the disco bay which is as pretty as it gets. We will return back to Ilulissat in the evening and enjoy the last night of the mid night sun.
We will fly back to Reykjavik and on arrival enjoy a city tour of Iceland’s capital. Our Hotel is in the centre of the shopping district and in the evening we have ample amount of time for some last minute Icelandic Souvenirs or just move around the city to explore it on feet.
After a leisurely breakfast we will drive to the Keflavik international airport from where we will board the flight to Amsterdam. We will check in a hotel close to the airport for our night stay.
We will board the Jet Airways flight back to Mumbai today.
