Our direct flight into Colombo will arrive early in the evening. After the arrival formalities, we will drive to Kandy, the most important city in Sri Lanka after the capital Colombo. Our hotel is beautifully perched on a hill in Kandy which itself is at an altitude of 3000 feet above sea level. If time permits, we will enjoy a cultural show at the Kandy culture center in the evening.
Our morning will start with a visit to a spice plantation and later we will proceed to the biggest elephant sanctuary in Asia, the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is beautifully set up against the backdrop of the river and to witness the elephant bathing here is an experience to cherish over lunch. We will later have a chance to feed the elephants (opt), and buy some elephant dung products like paper, etc. On our way back to Kandy we will stop at the Temple of Tooth temple, where in a casket, the tooth of Buddha is housed. We will return to our hotel on the hill later in the evening.
After a leisurely breakfast, we will depart on the most picturesque drive in Sri Lanka, which will take us to the tea capital of the island nation in Nuwara Eliya. On arrival, we will have lunch and later visit the local sights in the evening.
After an easy morning, we will leave from the hills towards the coast. At around 6 - 7 hours, this is the longest journey of this tour but nevertheless a scenic one. Lunch will be on the way as we arrive at our resort on the periphery of the Yala Wildlife reserve. The evening can be enjoyed in the surrounding of the resort. Yala National park is the largest national park in Sri Lanka and different types of wildlife reside in the park, like leopards, elephants, and deers.
An early morning wake-up is needed to enjoy a 3-hour Safari in one of its kind Wildlife Sanctuary, which is next to the Indian Ocean. In the Tsunami of 2001, a lot of Yala’s wildlife was swept away in a very sad turn of events. Return to the resort for a shower and then check out. We will begin our scenic coastal drive making many stops en route, one of them will be at a turtle hatchery and the other would be to see the traditional stilt fishing in this coastal belt of the island. Arrive in Galle, later evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Galle was ruled by the Dutch even when the island nation had British influence. We will start our day by visiting the famous Galle Fort along with its imposing lighthouse. Later we will roam in the old bazaar area and have an authentic lunch experience in one of the classic Galle restaurants. In the evening, we will enjoy the sunset from the comfort of our hotel terrace.
After breakfast, we will check out and head towards the airport. Colombo is situated 40 km before the airport. On arrival in Colombo, we will visit some of its important sights, and later before going to the airport, we will have time for lunch on the way.
