The coast of Malabar is unique in India. From Kasargod in the North to Thallesery in the South, we will have a myriad of experiences. There are forts with waves lashing their walls, and there are temples that calm you, but the speciality of Malabar is its rich culture, which we explore through its locals.

  • Arrive in Mangalore – Kasargod (60 km – 3 hrs)

On arrival at the Mangalore airport, proceed for a local lunch on the outskirts of Mangalore. Next, we will drive southwards to Ananthaswamy Lake Temple, one of its kind in Kerala. Dinner and overnight stay in Kasargod.

  • Kasargod – Kannur ( 104 km – 8 hrs)

Check out in the morning and drive to Fort Bekal. The seaside location is breathtaking, with the sea waves crashing into the fort walls. Later, we will visit Anandashram and experience the peace in its meditation room, followed by a stop at a handloom to learn more about the local weaving techniques.
After lunch, we will enjoy an hour of boating on the backwaters near Neeleshwar. We will continue driving south towards Kannur as we pass small towns on the way. Dinner and overnight stay in Kannur.

  • Kannur (11km - 6hrs)

In Kannur, we will begin our day with a visit to the Old Kannur Lighthouse and then to St Angelos fort. Lunch will be at a local restaurant after which we will visit the Arakkal Museum to learn about Kannur's royal family, who at one point owned the islands of Maldives and Lakshadweep. After some free time in the hotel we will drive to the longest beach stretch in India, the Muzhappilangad Beach for sunset. Dinner and overnight stay in Kannur.

  • Kannur – Kozhikode (112km - 8hrs)

To the south of Kannur lies the food capital of Malabar. Today will be especially about the food. On the way to Thalleserry, we will visit the Gundert Bunglow, where the German missionary and researcher Herman Gundert once lived. He was instrumental in publishing the first Malayalam to English dictionary and starting the first newspaper in Kerala. We will try and visit some Malabar-style architectural wonders here too, and later have the famous Thalleserry Biryani in an old establishment in the town. We will then drive towards Kozhikode (Calicut). On the way to Calicut, we will visit the Saragaya Arts and Crafts village to see some of the artists of Malabar at work. In the evening, before check-in, we will enjoy the sunset from the Kappad beach (time permitting).

  • Kozhikode – Mumbai (30km - 2hrs 30 min)

After a leisurely breakfast, we will have free time in the morning to enjoy some local sites in the city like the Miskhal Masjid (namaz time permitting), the only surviving 14th-century mosque in Kerala and the Deepanjali Museum of lamps. We will then proceed to Calicut Airport to board the flight back to Mumbai.
