Your journey begins with a smooth transition into the hills. Whether you arrive by flight into Pantnagar or Bareilly to meet our team, or take the morning Shatabdi from Delhi to reach Kathgodam by noon, the road soon turns upward toward Bhimtal. You’ll check into a quiet retreat overlooking the lake. If you arrive before 3 PM, there is a gentle option to stretch your legs with a forest walk through a private estate, letting the mountain air settle into your lungs as the first evening falls over the water.
The morning invites a bit of gentle activity with an easy forest walk to a village home,
where the rhythmic 'Pahadi' way of life unfolds before you. You’ll continue to the Sat Tal Christian Ashram, resting on the edge of the emerald waters of Garud Tal, a perfect place to sit in the forest and simply listen. After a short descent to Sat Tal lake, a car will whisk you away for a private, locally cooked lunch. The day concludes with a drive toward Mukteshwar and your homestay for the next two nights; the final stretch is a rustic, non-tar road that feels like a true departure from the world. You can spend the evening walking the grounds, taking in the sunset before a home-cooked dinner served by the warmth of the kitchen.
After a slow, nourishing breakfast, you’ll head back up that winding dirt road to the
highway, bound for the heights of Mukteshwar. The first half of your day is spent at total
leisure, visiting the local sights without any rush. You’ll enjoy lunch at a quiet Pahadi
café where the pace of life matches the drifting clouds, before returning to the comfort of your home for an evening spent exactly as you wish, perhaps with a book or a view of the darkening peaks.
If the sun is out, breakfast is best enjoyed on the deck, soaking in the morning light.
Today’s drive toward Almora includes a meaningful stop at the Dol Ashram to see the
Shri Yantra, a sacred geometric symbol of Goddess Lakshmi. For lunch, a local family
will welcome you into their village home, serving a meal harvested directly from their
own garden. A couple more hours of driving brings you to your new home on a hill, high
above the historic town of Almora, where you can settle in for the next two nights.
The morning takes you to the Chitai Golu Temple, the 'God of Justice' where thousands of bells of all sizes hang as silent prayers for those seeking fairness. From here, a 90-minute walk through the serene back forest of Almora allows your guide to introduce you to the local plants and birds. On a clear day, the Nanda Devi peak stands center stage in a magnificent Himalayan panorama. Later, you’ll visit the famous Kasar Devi temple, climbing the stairs to the ridge for a breathtaking view of the world below. After a stop for lunch and a bit of local shopping, the evening offers a choice: an easy Pathway walk through the forest to the Almora Bazaar, or simply staying put to soak in the views from the house.
Today you begin a slow descent from the high mountains toward the foothills. You’ll stop in Ranikhet at the Kumaon Regiment Museum, a place that honors the war heroes and the deep-rooted history of this region. The drive then continues straight down to your forest resort in the Mohan Range of Corbett. The evening is free for you to explore the gentle trails around the resort, where the air begins to carry the thicker, warmer scent of the jungle.
The rhythm of the day follows the pulse of the wild, with both a morning and an evening safari into two different zones of Corbett National Park. It is an active day spent in the dappled light of the Sal forests, looking for the tell-tale signs of the tiger and the many birds of the valley. Your final evening in Kumaon is a time for reflection, gathering around the dinner table to share memories and stories of the sights you’ve seen over the past week.
It is time to bid the mountains farewell. A transfer will be arranged to take you back to
your chosen airport at Pantnagar or Bareilly. For those returning by rail, you’ll head to
Kathgodam in the late afternoon to board the Shatabdi back to New Delhi. You’ll leave with the quiet strength of the hills in your heart and perhaps a few handwoven treasures
tucked into your bags.
