  • Arrive at Chandigarh

Arrive at Chandigarh and check into your hotel. Come evening head out for a walk by Sukhna Lake where locals come to wind down, followed by dinner at one of the city's food markets. Overnight in Chandigarh.

  • Chandigarh - Bir (Kangra)

After breakfast, drive into Himachal. Once you cross the Gobind Sagar dam area, the mountains begin making their presence known. We go through Bilaspur for lunch, then gradually ascend into Kangra district. Arrive at your mountain accommodation in Bir by tea time. Evening is free to walk through Bir's charming market. Overnight in Bir.

  • Bir - Billing - Rajgunda Valley - Bir

This is the drive everyone talks about after the trip. We go up first 6,000 feet to Billing, where those who want can indulge in their famous paragliding activities. Then deeper into Rajgunda, a valley that feels like Kangra's best-kept secret, the river follows you in and the scenery gets louder. There will be ample stops to soak in the scenery and take pictures along with some Pahadi lunch. In the evening return back to our home in Bir and enjoy an evening around fire with stories of Kangra. Overnight in Bir.

  • Bir - Palampur - Yol

Drive downhill to Palampur for tea tasting at a tea estate. This is North India's only tea-growing region, a fact most people don't know and fewer visit. Then we head to the Sobha Singh Art Gallery, where the cultural openness of this region of Himachal is quietly celebrated through decades of painting. Later, drive to a farm for lunch, for Kangradham, a traditional, slow-cooked vegetarian community feast native to this place. Continue to Yol on the Dharamsala foothills and check into our stay, a home sitting under the Dhauladhar range. Overnight in Yol.

  • Yol - Mc’leodgunj - Naddi – Yol

Leisure Day. Drive to McLeod Ganj (optional), the Dalai Lama's home in exile since 1960. Later visit the Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan Research, where traditional arts and crafts are kept alive with the same devotion they've always carried. Enjoy lunch in Naddi with views of the Dhauladhar range. Return to stay for an evening hike around the retreat, ending with tea and snacks at a village home where Kangra's character comes through in conversation more than any museum could manage. Last night in Kangra. Overnight in Yol.

  • Yol - Upper Dalhousie (Chamba)

Two districts, same state, entirely different worlds. The drive to Chamba passes through villages where the language shifts, the architecture changes, and the mountains reassert themselves in a different register. The roads are tricky, but the scenery compensates generously. Cross into Chamba after Drammam and check into your home in Upper Dalhousie, a 150-year-old Scottish home that's been standing here longer than most things around it and carries that history quietly. In the evening walk through the forest to reach Mall Road, Dalhousie. Overnight in Upper Dalhousie.

  • Upper Dalhousie - Chamera reservoir - Chamba - Khajjiar - Upper Dalhousie

Down into the Chamba Valley today with the Ravi River appearing as the road descends, the Chamera Reservoir stretches out along the way, making the drive more beautiful than the road has any right to claim. Chamba town for a proper local lunch, the kind of regional cooking that doesn't travel beyond the valley and is better for it. Then back up via Khajjiar, a plateau meadow that everyone calls Mini Switzerland. Last night in the Scottish home. Overnight in Upper Dalhousie.

  • Upper Dalhousie - Amritsar

As the journey begins the descend, the drive into Punjab feels like a gradual handover from mountains to plains. Stop for lunch on the way then drive to Amritsar. Visit the sacred Golden Temple, lit up at night, surrounded by calming devotion. Overnight in Amritsar.

  • Amritsar - Back Home

Board your flight home. You'll leave with Kangra tea, Chamba paintings if you bought them, and the realization that Himachal isn't one place, it's Kangra's valleys, Chamba's river roads, a Scottish home on a Dalhousie hilltop, and Pahadi lunches after village walks.
