Arrival at Chandigarh airport and proceed to your accommodation in the neighborhood of the Sukhna Lake. There is an option of walking around the lake with the locals in the evening. Dinner will be out after which we will head back to the 42 Anchorage by Guddu Dhanoa.
The departure from Chandigarh would be at 0900 hours. We enter the state of Himachal and then begin to ascend gradually till we reach Narkanda at a height of around 9000 feet above sea level. In between as we cross Simla and drive towards Upper Simla we will start noticing the acres and acres of Apple orchards mostly covered by nets to save the trees from hail. There will be breaks in between before we arrive at the Seetalvan Orchards by Meenakshi Aunty. Later in the evening enjoy
an orchard walk with Sachin, the resident manager.
Begin the day early with the riyaaz of ‘Sa’ in the dining space, accompanied by teas brewed at the orchard. Move outdoors for a short yoga session facing the rising sun, followed by breakfast at the property. Later set out to visit the tanning Jabbar lake and observe the local architecture of the Naga Devta temple. Drive to the tallest peak in the Simla district and enjoy the views from the top. Later head down for lunch after which we will return to Seetalvan Orchards for our first evening art session. Those not experienced with painting can also try their hand at putting the brush to paper.
Begin with morning meditation and yoga. Post breakfast, drive towards the lovely Kotgarh church and listen to the stories of how the last British village in India was settled. Drive to the upper roads of Kotgarh and pass Baghi to enter the extreme countryside of this side of Himachal. The lunch is a traditional one at a typical Himachali home with the Katkoni architecture. Our host Tarana, will explain to us the ingredients in the food. On the way back to Seetalvan we will visit an apple processing unit and learn about the packaging of the fruit which provides for the entire fruit bowl of Himachal.
This will be a relaxed day, as we will move from orchards of one home to the other. Our first home is where Atul and his family will welcome us for lunch and will tell us about the fruiting trees in their orchards including Apples, strawberries, peaches and plums. Later we will visit the home where the great grandson of Satyanand Stokes stays, the man who planted the first apple seed in Himachal in 1912, and in that way is responsible for apples in India on the whole. Listen to Vinay speak about his family legacy and apples as a grower with over 30 years of experience in planting various other stone fruit trees like cherries and plums.
After a period spent in the orchards it’s time to go back to the plains. Bid farewell to your host and drive back to Chandigarh with drop-offs at the Airport.
