The Canadian Rockies are a world of their own. Each summer, the icefields give way to turquoise lakes and rushing streams. Waterfalls drop from sheer rock faces, landing close enough for you to feel their spray. To truly experience the Canadian Rockies, the journey begins in the Kootenays, a mountain range often seen as the Rockies’ younger sibling. Here, apple and cherry orchards line the route, and quiet country roads follow the course of the water, setting the tone for the days ahead.

  • Arrival at Calgary

Land in Calgary and head to your downtown hotel for an easy evening walk in Alberta's largest city. No rush today, just a gentle introduction before the Rockies take over. Overnight in Calgary.

  • Calgary - Canmore

Morning drive to Alberta's Badlands, a landscape so otherworldly it doesn't look like Canada anymore. This region holds the highest density of dinosaur fossils on the planet, 70 million years of history sitting. Walk among the hoodoos, chimney-shaped rock formations carved by wind and water over millennia, then stop at Horsethief Canyon for photos that won't need filters. After lunch, drive to Canmore, a charming town on the banks of the Bow River. Your first evening in the Rockies, and the mountains already feel different here. Overnight in Canmore.

  • Canmore - Johnston Canyon

We’ll take the Banff Gondola up to the Sky Station above Banff town, a 7,000+ feet vantage point over the Bow River Valley that gives you the full scope of what's ahead. Later, drive to Johnston Canyon for a 2-5 km trail alongside rushing waters, where the canyon walls have been carved by the same force that's been shaping this landscape for thousands of years. Returning to Canmore in the evening, the Three Sisters peaks standing tall. Overnight in Canmore.

  • Canmore- Icefields Parkway- Glacier Lodge

Leave at leisure for one of Canada's most scenic drives, Highway 93, the Icefields Parkway. Two hours with zero mobile signal, which sounds inconvenient until you realize that's exactly the point. Reach Glacier Lodge for the night. Afternoon is active: walk on the Athabasca Glacier within the Columbia Icefield, then experience the Athabasca River Valley from the Glacier Skywalk. Evening, once the day-trippers clear out, the scenery in front of the lodge is entirely yours. Overnight at Glacier Lodge.

  • Glacier Lodge - Route 93A

Wake early for a walk near the glacier before the tour buses arrive, this is when the Rockies feel like they belong to you alone. Breakfast with a view, then checkout and drive north to Jasper. First stops: Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls, where you'll see how powerful water has sculpted stone walls over centuries. Take the less-touristy Route 93A toward Jasper, with photo stops by the river along the way. Overnight in Jasper.

  • Jasper - Maligne Lake - Jasper SkyTram

Morning walk around Pyramid Lake with Pyramid Mountain keeping watch. Walk to the island in between and experience the kind of calm that makes you forget what day it is. Later, drive to Maligne Lake for a slow boat ride to Spirit Island. Free time for lunch, then head back via Annette and Edith Lakes. A quiet 3 km walk around Annette Lake before returning to your Jasper hotel. Overnight in Jasper.

  • Jasper - Lake Peyto - Lake Louise

Call this the day of the lakes. Head back along the Icefields Parkway to catch the sights you missed driving north. The main event: time spent at both Lake Peyto and Lake Louise, observing how their waters shift color depending on glacial silt, sunlight, and nature's version of mood lighting. Check into your hotel in the town of Lake Louise for the next two nights. Overnight in Lake Louise.

  • Lake Moraine - Yoho National Park

After an easy breakfast, drive to Moraine Lake and hike up The Rockpile Trail for the view from the top. This is the lake that's been on Canadian currency, and once you see it, you'll understand why. Easy walk along its banks, then back to Lake Louise for a relaxed afternoon. Early evening, head into Yoho National Park to see the Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake, where the water lives up to its name. Evening at leisure to walk the town. Overnight in Lake Louise.

  • Lake Louise - Kananaskis - Calgary Airport

Before leaving the Rockies, one last stop in Kananaskis, a region of peaceful waters and high peaks that somehow stays quieter than its neighbors despite being just as stunning. Drop-off at Calgary Airport, bidding farewell to nine days of glaciers, lakes, and landscapes that don't need exaggeration to be unforgettable.
