The Republic of Ireland was formed just after India got its independence, both countries claimed their self-governing status after cutting ties with England. On our trips to Ireland, we've found the Irish not just friendly, but almost brotherly toward Indians. That said, this is exactly why we like to keep a visit to Ireland as just that a visit to Ireland, not clubbed with its neighbours. The Wild Atlantic Way drive is the heart of this trip, and a small group travelling together through the breathtaking Irish countryside only makes the drive better.

  • Dublin - Kilkenny

Arrive in Dublin and drive straight to Kilkenny, a pretty medieval town that's been a hub for pottery, paintings, and jewellery long before "artisanal" became a marketing term. Evening walk through its picturesque streets where the architecture hasn't forgotten what century it belongs to. Dinner and overnight stay in Kilkenny.

  • Kilkenny - Killarney

First stop Rock of Cashel, the most beautiful hilltop castle in Ireland (yes, there's competition, and it still wins). Then Cobh, a seaport town known as the Titanic's last port of call, visit their exhibition centre for a one-of-a-kind Titanic experience where history feels less like a textbook and more like a conversation. Continue to Killarney, a very special place in this itinerary. Dinner and overnight stay in Killarney.

  • Ring of Kerry - Killarney

Before the drive on the Wild Atlantic Way, attend a dog show by the District's Canine Club, because Ireland surprises you in the best ways. Then the Ring of Kerry, a circular roadway that showcases Ireland's rugged coastline at its most dramatic, waves lashing against rocky coast, photo stops that fill your camera roll faster than you'd expect. Evening, kick back in a local Killarney bar with Irish beers and whiskey, where the conversations are as warm as the drinks. Overnight stay in Killarney.

  • Killarney - Connemara

Drive to Connemara, but not before the Cliffs of Moher, standing atop these towering cliffs with Atlantic wind in your hair and spray on your face is the kind of moment that makes you forget your phone exists (almost). Quick stop at Shannon Ferry for photos, then continue to the tranquil Connemara where the pace slows down and so do you. Overnight stay in Connemara.

  • Connemara National Park

After breakfast, drive to Connemara National Park, 2,957 hectares of scenic mountains, expansive bogs, woodlands, and grasslands that make you understand why Ireland is called the Emerald Isle. Laid-back morning visiting local cafes and shops, lunch in town, then Kylemore Abbey, a Victorian castle turned Benedictine monastery tucked beside a lake, where history and serenity share the same address. This is Ireland at its most peaceful. Overnight stay in Connemara.

  • Connemara - County Donegal

Ireland is divided into counties, and today we head to one of the best- County Donegal, the northernmost. Lunch stop in Sligo, then a detour to Glencar Waterfall where W.B. Yeats wrote poetry about the water (he wasn't exaggerating). Pass by Benbulben, a 500-meter limestone mountain shaped by ice age glaciers that springs from the landscape like a natural table, Yeats is buried in its shadow, and one look tells you why he chose it. Dinner and overnight stay in Donegal.

  • Donegal - Glenveagh National Park- Bushmills

Scenic drive through Glenveagh National Park, mountains, lakes, and woodland that look straight out of a fairytale. Cross into Northern Ireland and reach Bushmills, a charming coastal town known for its historic distillery and seaside views that make you want to stay longer than planned. Overnight stay in Bushmills.

  • Bushmills

Morning visit to the Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Legend says a giant built it to reach Scotland; science has a different explanation, standing there, you might find yourself leaning toward the giant. Afternoon at Bushmills Distillery, the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery (operating since 1608, in case you're counting), tasting session included, craftsmanship explained, authenticity guaranteed. Overnight stay in Bushmills.

  • Bushmills - Dublin

Final day on the road. Drive back to Dublin for departure, through landscapes that have spent nine days quietly making their case for why Ireland isn't just beautiful, it's layered. You'll leave with Irish whiskey if you bought it, woollens if your suitcase had room, and the kind of memories that don't fade the way photographs do.
