To experience the real Antarctica the choice of the cruise is of utmost importance. The more the capacity of the cruise the lesser the landings. Our cruise is an all stateroom cruise with a capacity of under 200 people. This gives us maximum chances to land in the Antarctic sea to experience the Penguins and other attractions from up close.

L'AUSTRAL is operated by Hurtigruten Cruise Company. It is a Norwegian based Company Vastly Experienced in Polar Regions. The hull of the cruise is Ice Strengthened and will ensure a Smooth Ride in Shifting Blocks of Ice on the Antarctic Sea. The Cruise includes Landings and also supports us with Warm Clothes and Boots as we Step out in the Open. The biggest advantage of the sailing the Midnatsol is that the Ship is big however there are only 132 Cabins that can be sold on this.
The Cabins allocated will all be with an outside view and are Twin in their Structure. The Size is Comfortable to spend the 10 Days that we do on Board. The Food on the Cruise is Continental and for those who are Strictly Vegetarian the options can be a Bit Limited. So we ask them to get some Ready to Heat Packed Food for Additional Eating Comfort. This is an Expedition Cruise, so please do not Expect the High end Luxury of the Typical Alaska or Mediterranean Cruise.
Although Antarctic Weather is Extremely Changeable, Summer Temperatures hover just above the Freezing mark – comparable to a warm winter’s Day in North America. The 24-Hour Sunlight Warms air in Sheltered Areas, so you can also find yourself Stripping Down to Shirtsleeves. Either way, don’t worry. Our Expedition Leaders will make sure you’re Perfectly Comfortable, plus you’ll get your very own warm Jacket and Waterproof outer Layer to Wear on Excursions.
It’s true that some of the World’s Roughest Waters can be encountered in the Drake Passage, between Cape Horn and the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. The L'AUSTRAL is a comparative big ship and therefore it ensures greater stabilty in rough seas.
Once on the Antarctic Peninsula we will be able to land using small Rafts. Each Raft is manned by a guide and is strong enough to bear the Limited Winds.
Walking on the Snow is a Different Experience and we will be doing it on a Limited Scale once on Land. The Cruise provides us with Boots and therefore it wouldn’t be a tough task. The walk is not Physically Strenuous and a Senior Citizen with Regular walking abilities can do it without effort.
Some People save Antarctica for their last Adventure – Something to be done after they’ve seen everything else. But those who’ve been there always wish they’d gone sooner. For many, it is a Profoundly Spiritual Experience – an Encounter with the Raw Power and Beauty of Nature, and Recognition that we are small parts of a much larger whole.
So we say, why wait? While others roam the Galapagos Islands or Alaska, you can be on the Adventure of a lifetime: sailing past Mystic Blue Icebergs, Kayaking with Orcas and Humpback Whales, Bearing witness to Earth’s Last Great Wilderness.
The expedition cruise is the most important instrument in this tour. Our choice of the L'AUSTRAL not only ensures a safe voyage but also makes sure that the luxuries in cruising are taken care of. We stay on the Antarctic Sea for 8 days giving you a leisurely feel of the continent.
Arrival in Buenos Aires by Emirates airlines flight late in the evening and check into our hotel for the night.
This will be a free day for you to enjoy a city tour (optional) or just soak in the surroundings of our centrally located hotel. A small briefing would be held about the flight to the southern tip of the world after dinner.
Today our cruise L'AUSTRAL is ready to take you to sea. And we kick off everything with a welcome dinner.
We cross the Drake Passage and soon we will actually be in Antarctica! Join our lectures, learn more about photography or join in on interesting sessions in the science center. These activities are designed to make your visit to Antarctica even more interesting. Our young explorers have their own and exciting programs.
We cruise towards Antarctic Peninsula, and the highlights queue up during our journey here. This land and seascape with glaciers galore and beaches teeming with wildlife.
Ice floe, tabletop icebergs, mountain peaks that plunge straight into the sea, volcanic beaches, research stations, enchanting bays, and vestiges of the whaling industry: these are the faces of the Antarctic that will likely reveal themselves to you, in a hushed and surreal atmosphere. Land on the stony beaches and enjoy the beauty of this untouched Island.
Visit the locals of this area- elephant seals, fur seals, Antarctic minke whales, and orcas. Enjoy kayaking and hiking on many untouched beauties of this Island.
After these fantastic days in Antarctica, we are heading back to South America. You can spend some time on deck and enjoy the Drake Passage for one more time. The weather is unpredictable and can be quite rough on the Drake (Drake Shake), but it can also be very fine, what we call “Drake Lake”. Usually it’s somewhere in between. The Drake Passage is an excellent area for bird watching. However, in rough seas you may not be able to go out on deck. If it’s too calm the birds do not fly much, as they need stronger winds to glide over the ocean. So hope for conditions somewhere in between “Lake” and “Shake”.
We will spend our last night on the cruise when the ship docks at Ushuaia.
Today, as you disembark in Ushuaia and take your flight back to Buenos Aires. Fly back home from Buenos Aires with our International flight connections.
